The participants, including numerous instructors and representatives from most dive centers on the island, diligently worked together to retrieve marine debris from the seabed. Among the items collected were old ladders and pieces of broken steel, highlighting the diverse nature of debris threatening Gozo’s marine ecosystems.

Dive for Debris and Community Participation

The event, themed around ‘Dive for Debris’, underscored the importance of community involvement in environmental stewardship. By engaging in underwater trash removal, the divers not only cleaned up popular diving spots but also promoted eco-friendly diving practices.

Ministerial Recognition and Commitment to Ocean Conservation

The Hon. Dr Anton Refalo, Minister for Gozo, visited Reqqa Point to personally commend and express gratitude to all participants for their dedication. His presence underscored the government’s commitment to ocean conservation and environmental sustainability in Gozo.

By organizing such events periodically, the Gozo diving community aims to foster a cleaner marine environment, reduce plastic waste, and promote eco-friendly diving practices throughout the summer and beyond.
